Inspired by the American paper Gay Sunshine, in 1978 appeared in Brazil, during the dictatorship, the newspaper O Lampião, depicting the point of view of homosexuals on various issues, including sexuality. A group of journalists and writers from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo joined the project, fueling a publication that paved the way for the press at the time, addressing controversial issues at the period, such as racism, abortion, drugs and prostitution.

Livia Perez is a filmmaker and Ph.D candidate in Meios e Processos Audiovisuais (ECAUSP) with a Masters’ degree in Multimeios from the University of Campinas and one-year experience in Cinema and Audiovisual at University of Paris III (Sorbonne Nouvelle). She directed the documentary feature Lampiao, Lighting up the Brazilian Press; the short film Who Killed Eloá?, awarded as, Best Short Documentary at the Genii Awards (AWMSOCAL), among others, and the multiplatform documentary Se Eu Demorar uns Meses.Filmography
