CARLOS DIEGUES
He first started his career in the 1960`s, when he founded, along with Glauber Rocha, Nelson Pereira dos Santos and others, the movement known as Cinema Novo. In the seventies, he opens/opened a period of great popularity in Brazilian cinema with his film Xica da Silva, which broke the box office record at its launch. In the early eighties, he wrote e directed Bye Bye Brazil. His movies were worldwide commercially released and received several awards in the most important international film festivals, including Cannes, Venice, Berlin, among others. Today Carlos Diegues is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscar) and his last film, The Great Mystical Circus, a co-production between Brazil, France and Portugal, premiered internationally in the Special Selection of the 71st edition of the Cannes Film Festival in 2018.
