The aim of the workshop is to draw a historical and theoretical overview of black cinema, with emphasis on a reflection on the presence of black women in audiovisual works in Africa and diaspora. Black cinema: what is it? From representation to representativeness: a historical panorama of black cinema. Black cinema with women: protagonism and invisibility of black women in audiovisual productions.

Janaína Oliveira is a researcher and curator, holds a PhD in History, is a professor at the IFRJ (Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro) and Fulbright Scholar at the Center for African Studies at Howard University, Washington D.C, USA. She is currently the curator of the Zózimo Negro Bulbul Film Festival and the Fincar (International Festival of Female Filmmakers), as well as being part of the short film selection commissions of the Brasília Festival, Kinofoum and of the Week of the Directors. She is part of Apan (Association of Black Audiovisual Professionals) and the creator and coordinator of Ficine, Black Cinema Itinerant Forum (www.ficine.org).
